Had a fun Birthday in San Diego. We met a couple of guys, one tried to get all handsy on me and I was all, like uh, no. Then drunk dialed Michael (since it was morning there) and talked to him for awhile.
Michael continues to be really sick. He's back at work now, but is still limping for his leg, still having fevers, and still aching all over. Right now the diagnosis is Reactive Arthritis, but they don't really know. They sent him in for a CT scan last Friday, and the results won't be in until the 13th.Right now we are facing the very distinct possibility that he may have cancer. His symptoms are lining up as cancer related, and his blood work isn't looking good, either. But these are also signs of He keeps saying that he's sure the CT scan will reveal nothing, but he's mentioned his concerns a few times in our conversations, so I know it's weighing on him heavily. He doesn't want to worry me, but I'm going to worry regardless.
He sent me two dozen roses for my birthday. He actually also called me at midnight on Friday to wish me a happy birthday... I wasn't even expecting him to remember. The guy-who-I-hope-chokes-on-an-English-muffin never did. He's such a sweetheart.
He will be out here for his birthday. I'm planning on taking him to the hotel we stayed in for my birthday this weekend... it was super nice, and in the Gas Lamp district. Hopefully he'll be feeling better by the time he gets here in November and his mind will be free and clear of worry about having cancer or anything equally serious. We just have to wait it out and see, I guess.

Anyone who has ever been on the tube in London has to appreciate this song:

HA HA HA @ minding the gap...
Tonight was the Block Party at the university, a big festival where all the student groups go out and sell food to raise funds. My students sold nachos and drinks and KICKED ASS... I actually had to go back to the store several times to get more drinks and chips for the nachos.
At the end of the event they made about $350, and they were really excited.
Then, when I went to pack things up, I noticed someone had stolen our cart.
It was there when I came back the second time with drinks and then it was gone. We did a search of other student groups to see if we could find who hijacked it, but there was no luck.
Replacing the cart is about $100, which eats into our profits greatly.
I'm really disappointed for them. Maybe if I bring in a couple of students to one of the Alumni Association board members and have them look really sad, they'll donate to replace it.
Man, people are such bastards.

Okay, I just love our Chancellor. He is one of the most gracious, wonderful men in power that I've ever seen.
He really kind of "gets" what education is about, and is so great with students. For example, right before his first big speech on campus, he saw a student reading a book behind stage. He went up to the student, who stared at him, wide-eyed, and asked her what she was reading. When she responded, he made a few comments on the book, and then stuck his hand out and said "Hi, my name is Tim."
He's so gracious, too. He was at an event with alumni, wearing one of the school's ties. An alumnus commented on the tie, wondering where he could get one, and the Chancellor TOOK OFF HIS TIE and gave it to the alumnus!
One time when we were entering the building, he was coming in to have lunch at the restaurant downstairs. I saw him approaching from behind me (he was quite a few steps behind) so I held the door open until he got there. He took the door and refused to go in until I went in first.
The latest comes from last weekend. Our Chancellor was at move-in day, helping students and parents carry boxes and move into the dorms. What Chancellor does that? Most of the people he was helping had NO IDEA that he's the man who runs our university-- he was just some guy that was there to help people move.
Being in the department I am in, I have the pleasure of working at events he attends. I have to say, this guy is a rock star. He would give Obama a run for his money.
I'll tell you, it is leaders like him that really inspire you to work harder-- one who rules by graciousness rather than by the fist of fear.
Now, if all of our bosses could learn that lesson!

I've got three more work days to get through and then I'm off.
Days 29 &30: Circuit: Workout 3 Weight: +/-(.0) Soreness: Arms are a little fatigued Calories: 750
Day 28 Circuit: Workout 3 Weight: -(0.5) Soreness: Nothing Calories: Ohhhh, 80 gazillion. Due to crappy events I *almost* didn't Shred today. I came home, ate everything in the fridge and wallowed in my irritation with the crappiness of people. It didn't help that I started off the day by waking up at 8:10, thinking it was Saturday, realizing it wasn't and then being 40 minutes late for work. But, after I sat and griped, I got myself up and did the Shred. I wasn't going to let a bad man deter me from my goals. My wrists were hurting like a mo-fo so I decided on the Row/leg press that instead of resting my hands on my weights, to put them off to the side of each hand and grab them when it was time to row. This helped a LOT, and I actually felt like l got a better workout this way. My arms are feeling much more fatigued than they do when I do it the way in the video. Glad I ended up sucking it up and Shredding today. Only two days left! -K.
Day 27 Circuit: Workout 3 Weight: +(0.2) Soreness: Nothing Calories: 1460. Getting stronger by the day! However, the wrists are really hurting. I may not be able to do the pushup row thing anymore. I'm planning on going for a walk on the treadmil but I'm lacking motivation today. I only got 5 hours of sleep last night so I'm much less motivated than usual. Also stress and yet another crappy day at work really make it hard. I keep telling myself if I walk today, I will give my self tomorrow off (besides the obligatory shredding). Ugggh, must. Get. Self. Up. -K.
Day 26 Circuit: Workout 3 Weight: -(1.5) Soreness: Nothing Calories: 1280. + 1 hr on treadmill, Wii Only 4 days left! I actually noticed today, in the mirror, some tone on the side of my legs. It's not anything anyone but me would notice, though. I've really never been able to get toned or build any sort of muscle, though. It's just not in my genes, man. Also, never eating protein doesn't help. Unfortunately there are other problems right now... I've battled a little with pain in my wrists on and off for awhile, and since I started level three it's been more on that off. There are a lot of plank exercises including the stupid one where you are in push up position but on your weights and you have to do rows while holding yourself on one arm. Anyway, it puts a lot of strain on the wrists. Good thing I only have 4 days left, cause it's really starting to hurt, and it's not the good kind of hurt that mean Jillian endorses. -K.
